Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to pay for AI to use Quillon?
No. While many AI providers charge for usage, Groq offers a very generous free tier that works perfectly for most people. If you prefer to run AI completely for free and have a powerful enough computer, you can also use Local AI via Ollama.
Is my resume safe?
Yes. Quillon is local-first, meaning your data stays on your machine. When you connect an AI provider via an API key, that key is stored only on your computer. Requests are made directly from your device to the AI provider. Your career data is never stored on Quillon's servers.
What if I already pay for ChatGPT - does that count?
A ChatGPT Plus subscription (the $20/month plan) is separate from OpenAI's API access. To use OpenAI with Quillon, you'll need to add a small amount of prepaid credit (like $5) to your OpenAI Platform account. Most people find this is much cheaper than a monthly subscription if they only use AI for managing their applications.
Can I switch AI providers later?
Yes, anytime. You can switch between Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Local AI in the Settings → AI Configuration menu within the Quillon app.
What's the difference in quality between local and cloud AI?
Cloud providers (like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Groq) generally offer more powerful models that produce slightly better reasoning and writing. Local AI is excellent for 100% privacy and offline use, but the quality depends on how powerful your computer is.
I set it up but it stopped working. What happened?
The most common reasons are:
- API Credit: If you're using OpenAI or Anthropic, you might have run out of prepaid credit.
- Ollama not running: If using Local AI, make sure the Ollama app is open and running in your menu bar or system tray.
- Internet connection: Cloud providers require an active internet connection to work.
- Invalid key: Double-check that the API key was copied correctly without any extra spaces.
